Ecobuild: Key role for flooring contractors in sustainable flooring choices
Flooring contractors have an important influence in the market where floor coverings are not already specified – that is in almost half of contract situations, delegates at last month’s Carpet Recycling UK Seminar heard.
Presenting findings from his Contract Floorcovering Study at Ecobuild 2013, Robert Palmer of Palmer Market Research (pictured) revealed that environmental issues are increasingly important to specifiers, 85% of whom are using flooring contractors as a source of information when choosing a floorcovering. He concluded that “flooring contractors have a key role to play in helping to change attitudes to sustainability in specifying flooring, such as in using the latest resource efficient products.”
The seminar presentations covered a range of areas, including specifying green flooring products, resource efficient carpet design, long term carpet sustainability and Life Cycle Assessment. All the presentations are available for download on the CRUK website here.
The association attracted over 120 enquiries from its stand and seminar over the course of the show. CRUK Director Laurance Bird commented: “From the enquiries we received about using carpet materials, ranging from green roofs to furniture applications, it’s clear that people are thinking more broadly about carpet as a raw material resource.”
