First Carpet Recycling UK awards celebrate sector successes
Carpet Recycling UK hosted an awards ceremony for the first time at this year's Annual Conference to recognise the achievements of members who have made important contributions to advancing carpet recycling and reuse in the UK. Winners were selected by a panel of independent judges including Richard Catt, CEO of the CFA and Ray Georgeson of the Resource Association. The awards were presented by Bob Peoples, Executive Director at Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE).
Winners and Highly Commended runners-up in four categories were:
- Innovation in Recycling: Desso Ltd (winner) and Anglo Recycling Technology
- Take Back Partner of the Year: Anglo Recycling Technology (winner) and Abingdon Flooring
- Re-Use Member of the Year: Greenstream Flooring CIC (winner) and Carpet Tile Recycling
- Recycling Champion: Tony Winder, owner of Winder Carpets Ltd (winner, pictured above) and Mike Collins, Operations Manager at Abingdon Flooring
CRUK Director Laurance Bird commented: "Given the quality of nominations was so high, this made choosing the winners a difficult task for our judges. Congratulations to everyone!"
Laurance also received a special award for Outstanding Achievement for his work in developing carpet recycling in the UK, presented to him by Carpet Recycling UK chairman Andy Hall.
