Winder Carpets launch new underlay made from recycled fibres
In just four years, CRUK retailer member Winder Carpets has progressed from a zero to over 90% recycling rate by diverting its waste carpet, fitting off-cuts, and wool underlay from landfill. After identifying and separating man-made from wool product, it is palletised and banded up ready for collection. This year saw the company win the Carpet Recycling UK 'Champion 2014' Award for these efforts.
Winder Recycled UnderlaySince then the company has successfully trialled the processing of its carpet waste with a recycler who has the ability to shred and 're-pull' the carpet into a reusable fibre. These fibres are remade into carpet underlay (pictured) for Winder Carpets to use again under fitted carpet sales - a fantastic offering for customers.
By recycling cardboard, polythene and metals waste, Winder Carpets can offset the cost of disposal for any non-recyclables. Tony Winder, Director commented: "Recycling is not hard to do but you have to be dedicated to the cause!"
