Kenburn helps Arighi Bianchi recycle uplifted carpet
Arighi Bianchi is a long established furniture store with a large carpet department that supplies flooring nationwide. As a member of Carpet Recycling UK, it has for some time recycled its carpet-fitting waste with another member Anglo Recycling, for use in recycled underlay and equestrian flooring.
In the course of seeking a landfill alternative for its post-consumer carpet waste, the company was visited by Kenburn who gave a demonstration of the 'Carpet Crusher' compaction equipment on uplifted carpet and underlay. Kenburn also provided logistical advice on environmentally friendly disposal for this material.
Neville Hinchliffe from Arighi Bianchi said: "We've installed a 'Carpet Crusher' and our post-consumer waste is now used as fuel to power concrete kilns. We've diverted hundreds of tonnes a year from landfill and significantly reduced waste management costs. We find our customers are happy to pay a premium to have their carpet and underlay waste recycled".
CRUK's Marie Rhodes attended a training session given by Kenburn as part of the machine installation. "The Arighi team got the hang of using the machine quickly and could see the benefit of creating neat bales. This way, retailers can put more carpet on a wagon and save on transport costs" she said.
