A ‘clear shift’ in industry support for collaboration to recover textile flooring waste materials and help develop technology and infrastructure for the circular economy was evident at Carpet Recycling UK’s (CRUK) Annual Conference, Dinner and Awards Event held in June 2022.
Promoting the use of textile flooring
as a sustainable resource
Carpet Recycling UK is a not-for-profit membership association working to reduce the amount of carpet waste being sent to landfill.
Our mission is to promote the diversion from landfill of textile flooring in the UK to resource for sustainable use. We do this by working with businesses in the supply chain, government and academia to foster collaborations and networks to achieve viable market-based solutions, encouraging design for recyclability.
Members include businesses and organisations from every stage of the carpet supply chain, together with recyclers and equipment providers.

Thank you to our Core Funders, who are taking voluntary producer responsibility for the carpets and textile flooring they are placing onto the market.
The 2020 figures are our most comprehensive due to the way these have been compiled, and a new methodology of data collection from the wider waste sector throughout the UK.
Since the last set of figures in 2019, the total amount of carpet and textile flooring waste arising in the UK has increased by 37,000 tonnes and is at 467,000 tonnes for 2020.
Exhibiting on Stand A45 at the 2022 Harrogate Flooring Show, Carpet Recycling UK (CRUK) is inviting the sector to build on collaborative momentum and act to reduce textile flooring waste and resource usage ahead of any potential changes to UK legislation such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
